The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts Schools of Architecture, Design and Conservation (KADK) is inviting applications for a permanent full-time position as a professor with a particular focus on the intersection between architecture, design and interior design, which is both a research and a teaching field for the postgraduate programme Spatial Design, Perception and Detail at the Institute of Architecture and Design.

The vacant professorship, which is affiliated with the Institute of Architecture and Design, should ideally be filled as of 1 March 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter. The Institute of Architecture and Design explores and develops the crossfield between design and architecture, with a starting point in Danish tradition and the ambition of presenting a new agenda within this field.

About the position

We are looking for a visionary professional profile within architecture, design and interior design.
This is a new and growing field that investigates the mutual relations between social and physical spaces, including Spatial Organisation, Interior Design and Microarchitecture. Students and researchers work with architectural projects on a human scale that relate to subjects of relevance to society and social issues. Design-related, architectural and artistic aspects and investigative methods are employed in close relation to other scientific fields such as anthropology. The methods are applied to investigate how the exact use of proportions, composition, materials and details can enrich the experience of space. The field ranges from the spatial scale and context to the detail level, combining both architectural and design specialisations.

The ideal profile has a background as an architect, designer or associated fields such as anthropology or sociology. Emphasis will be placed on the candidate having extensive knowledge of working with architecture and design at a detailed scale level, focusing on people and users. Perception, details, materials in addition to social aspects and relevance to society are key to this focus area, and it will be an advantage if the applicant has knowledge of and/or a particular interest in and visions for one or more of these areas.

You will be expected to be able to add relevant scientific weight at a high level to the subject area, with a focus on process and method and the application of the most recent knowledge and state-of-the-art technology. We would like to strengthen the architecture, design and interior design area in general by supplementing our research and teaching expertise in this area, while at the same time strengthening our networks and collaborative work – both nationally and internationally.

The position as a professor will consist of research and/or artistic development activities, teaching, academic management, administrative work and, not least, development of the focus area of architecture, design and interior design.

Your tasks will include:
• Establishment and profiling of the field of Architecture, Design and Interior Design in both teaching and research.
• Academic management and coordination of an independent postgraduate programme within the field.
• Management of research and/or artistic development activities including publishing and scientific dissemination within the position's focus area in collaboration with relevant external institutions, companies and networks nationally and internationally, as well as with the other research and development fields at the institute and across KADK as a whole.
• Visionary and productive teamwork in the planning of future research and development projects, including active participation in application for external funding and fundraising for the institute's activities.
• Teaching, teaching planning and associated administration related to KADK's programmes and interdisciplinary teaching, including teaching on the postgraduate programme within the field.
• Supervision, examinations and external examination work as well as professional assessment work.
• Participation in a number of KADK's committees and potentially in collegial bodies.
• Strengthening the research field across KADK's institutes and in collaboration with external partners.
• Fundraising work.

You will also be expected to participate in interdisciplinary collaboration through teaching and research in collaboration with KADK's other institutes and staff, including contributing to the content and development of the interdisciplinary core subject teaching at KADK and potentially other tasks.

Your teaching and research focus will be within architecture, design and interior design. Your particular focus must be described and defined in further detail in your application.
It should be assumed that personnel management in the long term and subject to further agreement may form part of the position, should KADK express a wish for this.
