A bonus image of Sts. Simon and Jude:

as depicted by the Troyes Master in the late fourteenth-century Hours of Prigent de Coëtivy (ca. 1380-1400; Rennes, Bibliothèque de Rennes Métropole, ms. 1511, fol. 207v):

Jude (at right) bears a carpenter's square (an occasional attribute of his in the later Middle Ages; usually the apostle who bears one is Thomas).

But what is it that Simon is bearing?  It looks like a croquet wicket.  Chances are, though, that it's something else.

Best again,
John Dillon
