Statistical and Mapping Officer

£24,747 - £27,497

Bristol

Ref: 1510588

At the Forestry Commission our mission is to advise on, work with others, and help care for England’s woodlands. Working with woodland owners and managers, businesses and local communities, the Forest Services arm of the Commission takes an evidence-led approach to protecting, improving and expanding England’s trees, woods and forests. So the data you collect, compute and analyse will help positively influence the environment; from the creation and management of woodlands, to ensuring healthy trees and more.

Focusing on statistical data and maps, you’ll support the production of management information and official statistics built on astute geographical and numerical analyses. You’ll input into data collection methodologies, while also managing datasets, ensuring quality and sharing your findings with Forest Services customers. Your hard work will be used to inform reports based on your compelling presentation of statistical and spatial data with clear narratives and evidenced conclusions.

You’ll have a history of interrogating numerical, statistical and spatial data and delivering a responsive service with high-quality outputs to your customers. In addition to experience in a similar role, you’ll have earned a relevant postgraduate qualification or equivalent. So you’ll know how to solve geographical problems based on evidence you generate using spreadsheets and GIS applications. What’s more, you’ll be able to convey your analyses in impactful tables, graphs, maps and related written narratives. Equally important, you’ll be proactive and collaborative in your approach, and committed to improving your skills and our service.

If you share our passion for protecting, improving and expanding, England’s woodland, and have the competencies set out in the formal Job Description, we would invite you to apply to join our team.
