If there is a difference Robert how is it determined? Is it to be determined on the basis of “intention”? And does intention have a bearing on aesthetics? And if so in what sense, and would there be limits to this? All valid inquiries. But now that Mark Weiss has offered an answer that is both logical, historically aware and which makes comprehensive sense, any further discussion will only be a waste of time.

Unless Jamie wants to continue to nit picking with me, I will exit this discussion.

If the song is written to be performed with music is it aesthetically different from a 'song' which was always meant to be a poem - and for which there never was a musical accompaniment?
