De Montfort University is seeking talented Early Career Researchers and lecturers in its most successful areas of specialisation. Prominent among these is the award-winning Cinema and Television History (CATH) Centre. The CATH Centre is one of the leaders in its field, with more than forty staff, associate and PGR members. At REF 2008 its submission achieved the highest percentage of 4* outputs in its Unit of Assessment, placing it within the top two percent of all submissions to the REF. 100% of its Impact and 90% of its Environment was rated 4* or 3*. The Centre's members currently hold four grant awards from the AHRC and the British Academy, including two large AHRC awards for the investigation of British cinema's transition to sound (with University of Stirling) and a history of women's work in the British film and television industries (with University of Leeds) and a BA Rising Star Award. The CATH Centre is part of the Midlands Three Cities Doctoral Training Partnership and has a strong record of doctoral completions. It's portfolio of archival holdings, which includes the Hammer Script Archive, the Sir Norman Wisdom Collection and the Peter Whitehead Archive, is becoming increasingly central to its work, which features distinctive and innovative approaches to research impact. The Centre also has close associations with organisations in the museums, film exhibition and DVD distribution sectors, and with BECTU and the BFI.

The work of the CATH Centre is securely underpinned by a high-recruiting single and joint honours undergraduate programme in Film Studies, which achieved a maximum satisfaction score in the last NSS. Undergraduates are taught in part at our partner cinema, the Phoenix in Leicester. We are looking for candidates who can further enhance our teaching and research portfolios to take up Early Career Academic Fellowships, which last for one year with the potential to be converted into full-time lectureships at the end of this period. The closing date for applications is 23 September, but early bird applications will be considered for the first tranche of interviews before that date. The posts can begin as early as October 2016, so there is no time to waste.

This is an excellent opportunity for first-class researchers and teachers to take their first steps towards long-term employment in academia at one of the UK's fastest-growing and highest-achieving Film and Media departments. Further details and the online application portal can be found here:
