Hi Katie

I think this is a great idea and The Bibliomagician would be delighted to host it.  Andy Tattersall’s new book on Altmetrics provides a list of altmetric sources, some of which I’d not come across.  The challenge would be keeping it up to date but as you say, if we can do this collectively, it would reduce the burden.

Best regards

Elizabeth

Subject: Sources of metrics from library systems

Hi all,

I’ve been thinking about drawing up a list of all the sources of bibliometrics and altmetrics that we have in the systems to which our library subscribes here at Nottingham, i.e. sources of citation data beyond the big 3, resource platforms offering information on downloads and views, and databases or resource platforms which link in third party altmetric data. My personal suspicion is that there’s a wealth of low visibility data there that we’re not tapping into, and that knowing what is where might even be important in decisions about renewals of such systems.

I’m not aware of anything that attempts an extensive list of these types of system. Does anyone know of something that I might have missed? Further, if there isn’t such a resource out there, is there any appetite for collaboratively creating such a list under the guise of LIS-BIBLIOMETRICS e.g. for the Resources page of the Bibliomagician blog?

I’m focusing on library systems as I perceive that to be a particular information gap, but others might disagree.

Best wishes,

Katie
