Hi Montserrat

Like lots of other cloud services (OneDrive, iCloud, etc), Alma offers a dedicated digital object store, but the value of EPrints (in particular) lies in the tools that are specifically provided for working in UK OA IR context - managing workflow, deposit, licensing, embargoes, citations, versioning, metadata profiles, harvesting, etc. Building these reliably onto any other digital store is always possible, but likely to be a costly and time-consuming customisation process.

Nick Sheppard’s recent post on the UKCORR blog is a useful summary of current practice/thinking on this. http://ukcorr.org/2015/11/27/cris-and-retirement-of-repositories/

Subject: Re: changing IR software

Hi Melissa and all,

Have you or anybody else investigated the use of Ex Libris Alma or a product part of it? I was in a meeting recently and the issue of changing IR software came up and someone suggested Alma. My understanding is that Alma is only for library management services, like cataloguing and acquisitions, but to replace an IR?

Many thanks,

Montserrat

Subject: changing IR software

Hi Everyone,

We are currently reviewing our institutional repository software as part of a larger CRIS system upgrade and wondered if anyone had changed their IR software or discontinued using their IR in preference for an integrated package like PURE.

Regards,
Melissa.
