A bit more info from Brian Murless of the Somerset Industrial Arch Soc:

Hack is a common term for drying (at least in Somerset), the clay products
being stacked on racks prior to firing. In their simplest form they are
slatted timber racks with a temporary roof coverings for external use in
good weather. However, the drying shed developed from a shed with louvered
shutters and a boiler at one end (as seen at Wedmore) to a building with
pipes carrying the waste heat from the kilns.

Subject: Hack Shed and potteries

Hello, could anyone tell me please what a ‘hack shed’ would be used for in relation to a pottery/ brick making site? I have a 1971 plan of a derelict site on which one is marked. Not (yet) in the Monuments thesaurus...

Thanks
