Senior GIS Developer We are looking for an expert GIS Developer with at least 5 years’ experience to help us build the world’s first truly global 3D Outdoor Map Platform. FATMAP (fatmap.com) is a multi-award-winning start-up company with a vision to revolutionise mapping for outdoor activities by harnessing the 3D graphics capabilities of cutting-edge gaming technology. We combine ultra-high resolution 3D landscape models with an array of innovative carto- and info-graphic features and content targeted at the specific needs of individual outdoor activities, such as skiing, hiking and mountain-biking. Since launching our first apps in early 2015, we have acquired a large, dedicated and passionate community of users and contributors. Having secured substantial funding we are now embarking on an ambitious and exciting journey to extend the capabilities of our platform. As well as extending to global coverage and additional outdoor activities, we are now building a generic platform API to allow both ourselves and 3rd party collaborators to develop applications for a huge range of business sectors and potential use cases. Role & Responsibilities: The role will be as Senior GIS Developer within the Map Platform team in Bristol, and working remotely with our Infrastructure and Development teams. You will lead the architecture, design, technology selection and implementation of the core geo-data services that we need to serve our platform, including the world’s first global high-resolution elevation data tile streaming service aimed at the outdoor activity market. In addition, it will include the development of services, workflows and processes to optimise the creation, delivery, management and quality of imagery, models, reference data, and other rich geo-data to the platform. The role requires both broad knowledge and deep expertise across GIS development, with the ability to define the optimal architecture for our needs, to determine the most appropriate tools and software, and to develop and implement the right solutions efficiently. You will need a flexible, hands-on approach, and a delivery-oriented focus to building the best solutions in a fast-moving start-up environment. Core Skills/Experience: + Expert Python development skills + Experience setting up and maintaining tile server solutions using FOSS tools + Experience provisioning GIS services on cloud infrastructure + Deep Understanding of core principles of GIS and geo-data management + Understanding and experience in photogrammetry and/or remote sensing in general, with experience using Google Earth Engine or the GBDX platform + Expertise in some or all of the following: GDAL/OGR, FME, Orfeo Toolbox, R or Rasterio for processing real big data sized amounts of elevation and imagery + Knowledge of RDBMS principles and design, and at least one SQL database platform (preferably PostGIS) + Knowledge of global geo-data sources, GIS standards and Industry Trends + Cloud geo-data infrastructure architecture and management + Excellent written & verbal communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills + Independent, organised, and able to design, architect and implement solutions to a high-level brief Desirable Skills/Experience: + QGIS/GlobalMapper desktop programming/scripting + Javascript Skills (Leaflet, Openlayers, Cesium3D) + Other programming experience in standard enterprise OOP technologies (e.g. .NET, Java) + Ruby + Knowledge of automated provisioning tools – e.g. Ansible, Chef + Interest and active participation in outdoor activities – e.g. Skiing / Snowboarding / Mountain Biking / Rock Climbing / Mountaineering To apply e-mail a CV to illya at fatmap dot com and CC dave at fatmap dot com Location: Bristol, UK Type: Permanent Salary: Dependent on experience -- FATMAP Logo To unsubscribe or modify your gis-jobs settings, please visit: http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/gis-jobs
