Hi Mike If the student is really stuck and can't do fieldwork, we have developed a virtual training environment we mainly use to prepare students for the field, but also have a version we use for those who can't go on fieldwork. It's freely available online at www.see.leeds.ac.uk/virtual-landscapes/<http://www.see.leeds.ac.uk/virtual-landscapes/> Let me know if you're interested in using this, we have a version which does not name the rock types and so can be used with your own hand specimens. They are using new technology (e.g. remote sensing analysis, computational exercises) as well as taking advantage of a spectacular geologic setting. The camp ran for the first time last summer in Orvieto, Italy (I know, right!) and he is planning to run it again next summer. Here is a news article about the camp https://uanews.arizona.edu/story/ua-creates-accessible-study-abroad-geosciences-course and a web page https://global.arizona.edu/study-abroad/program/accessible-earth Rick, who is cc'ed to this email, should be able to point you even more information. best, -Michele ------------------------------------------------ Michele Cooke Geosciences Dept UMass - Amherst 611 North Pleasant St Amherst, MA 01003-9297 www.geo.umass.edu/faculty/cooke<http://www.geo.umass.edu/faculty/cooke> -------------------------------------------------- On Sep 16, 2016, at 6:46 PM, Mike Valentine <[log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>> wrote: Hi all, I have a student that needs to complete a geology field camp course and has difficulty hiking on steep terrain.
