The University of Cumbria is seeking to appoint an external examiner ASAP for Secondary PGCE placements which would involve visiting trainee teachers in school and carrying out quality assurance ( QA) observations and activities on behalf of the programme. The QA visits are likely to involve both core university based trainees or trainees undertaking a school direct route with one of our school alliance partners. The QA visits are typically carried out towards the end of May over a two day period to be agreed with the suitable applicant. It is envisaged that a suitable candidate would be flexible and be prepared to adopt a generic approach to the role as it will involve observing lessons over a wide range of different subjects and analysing the quality of the feedback given by mentors. The role will also involve attending the placement assessment board in late June and reporting on the QA activities undertaken
Please note that we are unable to accept applications from you if:
• You are a current external examiner within the University of Cumbria or have been in the previous four years if you have served a four year term with us
previously
• You are currently professionally involved with members of the programme team
• You have been employed within the previous five years by the University or at one of its associate institutions.
