Colleagues,

I have the impression that there may be a need for two distinct JISC lists:
Of course many of us could/would subscribe to both -- but not everyone is interested in the latter.
Would this be a good step forward in order to avoid the sort of tension, stress and unhappiness we just experienced?
Does anyone know how to set up a JISC list?

Thank you,

Loykie

Thanks for that insight Zamanta., how patronising and condescending of you.

Please do your research before you start shooting from the hip
I quote from the JISC Mail site for this list "This list will provide a discussion forum for people interested in external examining issues".
Currently we are discussing external examiners issues.

Dear All

Polite request. Please could this discussion move to a different thread so as to leave the External Examiners email free for requests for EEs only?

Thank you.

I don’t usually comment on these discussions because they start with good points and then descend into bickering about the function of the list, grammar, and professionalism (so I’m doing this with trepidation). I would like to go back to the first response to this call, which noted that yet again a UK university will only accept External Examiners with prior experience. I have spent the last two years trying to get an external examiner position with no luck. I have lots of management and quality assurance experience from work undertaken in my current institution, but just can’t seem to get my first external post.

I think that some very good points have been made in the last year, particularly the continuous calls from senior academics to make EE positions more available for early career academics. So, I have a question for members of this list:

·         Is there anything we can do as an academic community to raise this issue in a wider forum (PFHEA network for instance) in a bid to influence change?

I look forward to seeing what you think.

Best wishes
