FULL-TIME ARCHIVIST

Why choose us?

The Stationers’ Company is the City of London Livery Company for the Communications and Content industries. We are based at Stationers’ Hall in the City of London, close to St Paul’s Cathedral. Founded as a guild in 1403 by manuscript writers and illuminators, the Company embraced printing early in the 16C and received a Royal Charter in 1557. We remain an active Livery Company with some 900 members and have close links with a range of modern industries linked to printing and publishing (including archivists and book conservators). Our archive goes back to the early 16C, surviving the great fire and the blitz. It is housed at Stationers’ Hall and there is an office and reading room close by.

The role

You will lead in the care of the Stationers’ Company’s archive, and the delivery of high quality, customer-focused archive services which support the core activities and financial sustainability of the Company. Leading the day-to-day operations of the Stationers’ Archives you will supervise and support users of the archive and assist with enquiries. You will lead an ongoing programme to catalogue archive collections in line with recognised archival practice.  You will work with partners to create dynamic relationships for the greater use and knowledge of the Company’s archive.

You will assist users with the archive catalogue, and provide guidance on the use of archive materials. Welcoming visitors and researchers, you will lead orientation sessions and other training activities in the effective use of the archive and you will contribute to the dissemination activities for the archive, particularly our annual Archive Evening and other relevant Company events.

Your profile

With either a degree in Archives and Records Management or equivalent, or a degree in any subject plus a postgraduate qualification in Archives and Records Management, or equivalent, you will have relevant experience in an archive or customer service environment. You will be used to creating realistic plans to achieve the agreed deadlines and objectives of the role, and are at ease working independently. With experience of providing guidance to support the diverse needs of archive users you will be able to communicate accurate and relevant information regarding services and systems in a manner that demonstrates effective interpersonal skills and an understanding of the historic context of the Stationers Company.

In return, the Stationers Company offers a salary in the region of £27,000 pa, 25 days holiday per year plus bank holidays, an attractive pension scheme and a commitment to your continuing personal development and training in an environment that encourages excellence, creativity and diversity.
