Hi Giorgia,

I've not been involved, but Groundwork NE and Cumbria might be worth checking out (for vacancies and/or for opportunities to volunteer).

Good luck,

Emma-Kate

Hi Giorgia,

Keep an eye on countryside-jobs.com and environmentjob.co.uk, as these tend to be the best sites for environmental education/conservation/ecology type jobs and volunteer positions.

The requirements for ecology/conservation posts are often quite different from environmental education roles, so it might be best to pick one area of work and focus on getting the skills/qualifications/experience needed. If interested in ecology then things like bird ID skills and a phase one surveying qualification would be useful. If you would prefer to go into environmental education then hands on experience with a wide range of client groups would be more beneficial (possibly through volunteering), and an outdoor first aid course too. The Conservation Volunteers and the RSPB are both quite good at providing free training for regular volunteers.

Good luck,

Kirsty

Hi Georgia

I'd imagine things like that might be a bit few and far between in Newcastle itself, so would you consider a bit further out - Northumberland, Cumbria, Lake District??

Why don't you try getting in touch with the National Trust, Wildlife and Wetlands Trust, English Heritage, whoever owns Kielder... they're bound to have places/projects in the area. What about the local water companies? Not very sexy, but they do environment/ecological related work.

Or maybe try getting in touch with the relevant departments at the region's Universities or colleges and see if they can help at all? They'll have contacts outside of academia. Don't be shy - people love it when someone shows initiative and an interest in something they're involved in!

Good luck
Anthea

That can't be easy to find.

I don't know the area, but would suggest zoos, nature centres, reserves, forestry sites and managed woodland, aborculturalists, outdoors sports centres and sites, bushcrafters...

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone could please help me out.

I am looking for environmental/ecological/nature-related/outdoor apprenticeships within Newcastle or jobs that require fewer qualifications

If anyone knows anyone I would be very thankful if you could please email me.

Many thanks,

Giorgia.
