Historical moments in PUS – Guidelines for contributors
Presentation and Aims
The rubric Historical moments in PUS has been set up by the new editor of the journal PUS, Massimiano Bucchi. It is edited by Jean-Baptiste Gouyon. The aim is to highlight historical instances related to the construction of the public
cultures of science, or its scholarly investigation, which can be seen today as meaningful for and relevant to the fields of science communication and public understanding of science. The intent here is to highlight the value of historical enquiry, and of
an historical sensibility, for the development of current scholarship in and about science communication and the public understanding of science.
Examples of topics
Topics for the rubric Historical moments in PUS can be past scholarship (e.g. see the piece published in the August 2016 issue of PUS), past endeavours at communicating the sciences (e.g. the genesis of a science television series,
the set-up of a museum display, a popular science monograph…), profiles of academics, practitioners, or institutions, who innovated in the communication of the sciences… These are only examples and should not be seen as limitative. Whatever the topic, the
aim is always to make clear its conceptual relevance to the scholarly community.
Editorial guidelines
A typical piece for this rubric should be between 1500 and 2000 words long. The rubric is scheduled to appear in print approximately in every other issue of the journal. Texts will be coupled with a blog post, and/or a video, both to be
featured on the PUS Blog.
