Hi Stefan,

I've tried livestreaming a couple of ways. Periscope is easiest, but is hard on the phone/tablet you run it on, and it's difficult to save the stream afterwards.

I prefer to livestream via YouTube, which has the benefit of automatically saving the stream as a YouTube video. I believe you can disable comments if so inclined.

I don't know about your current camera's compatibility, but I've been able to plug my Logitech C920 HD Webcam (~£50) straight into a MacBook running free Open Broadcaster Software (OBS) and stream to YouTube at 1080p with minimal fuss. OBS can also save to HD simultaneously and is pretty user-friendly. The Logitech webcam has only average sound capture, but I've seen the Blue Snowball Mic (£~65) recommended for that.

Can't advise on charging, I'm afraid.

All the best,

Sarah

Dear MCGers,

We are looking into live streaming our events and I was wondering if anyone had any advice.

Equipment-wise, we have a mini DV camera with HDMI output, which could connect to a Macbook through one of these gizmos. But if anyone can think of an alternative I’d be keen to hear. We’re on a shoestring so it couldn’t be anything fancy.

We were thinking of using Google Hangouts to stream evening events for free. But for specialist conferences we might consider a paywall, using a service like Webinars On Air.

So, any advice on live streaming equipment and service providers, and thoughts on charging?

Thanks in advance
Stefan
