The Memory of London: Visit to London Metropolitan Archives

10 October 2016, 2-4 pm

 London Metropolitan Archives is a public research centre which specialises in the history of London.  Our services are free to use and open to everyone. We care for an provide access to the historical archives of businesses, schools, hospitals, charities and all manner of other organisations from the London area.  With 100km of books, maps, photographs, films and document dating back to 1067 in our strong rooms, we’re proud to provide access to one of the finest city archives in the world – you could call it the memory of London.

State-of-the-art library: visit to the University of Bedfordshire, Luton Campus

The University of Bedfordshire prides itself on listening to and implementing the views and opinions of its students. The £46m project was developed in collaboration with students, who took part in focus groups to aid the planning and construction of the facility. The University is investing £46m in a new state-of-the-art library at the Luton campus. The new library opened July 2016.

Visit to the Art Collections, Royal Holloway, University of London

22 November 2016

Your visit to the Art Collections at Royal Holloway, University of London will begin in what is known as the Victorian Corridor where you can view four impressive copies of Italian Renaissance paintings by the artist, connoisseur, critic and Suffragist, Christiana Herringham (1852–1929). The Picture Gallery itself mainly comprises paintings purchased by Royal Holloway’s founder Thomas Holloway (1880-1883). Amongst his most notable purchases are Man proposes, God disposes by Sir Edwin. H. Landseer, The Railway Station by William Powell Frith and The Princes in the Tower by Sir John Everett Millais. The tour will be led by the Curator, Harriet O’Neill, and will include information on the history of the Art Collections as well as current conservation projects.
