Hi all,

A visit to the Egypt Centre really is a must! Can't stress it enough

Especially for anyone interested in how to make a successful volunteer programme (and obviously about being family friendly)

Hi all,

The Egypt Centres collection is based upon a selection of items brought together by the pharmacist Sir Henry Wellcome. After his death much of his collection was dispersed to various museums in Britain through the Wellcome Trustees, and in 1971 ninety two crates of artefacts come to Swansea University.

In 1998 a purpose built museum to house the collection officially opened in Swansea.

The Egypt Centre is the largest Egyptology collection in Wales, and the only museum in Wales to be purely focused on ancient Egypt.

If anyone is in the area do pop in for a visit!

Hi everyone,

I emailed around a few weeks ago to ask if anyone had any family friendly museum suggestions and GEMland rose to the task majestically!

In the end we visited Clangers, Bagpuss and Co at the Museum of Childhood and Fire! Fire! at the Museum of London. Both were fantastic and I’d really recommend visits. Fire! Fire! felt really immersive , with lots to touch, visitors being encouraged to question the evidence about the causes of the fire and a smoky smell in the exhibition space. Clangers, Bagpuss and Co had a brilliantly simply interactive that lets visitors create their own stop motion animation using characters from Ivor the Engine.

Suggestions (in no particular order) are below -

1. Fire! Fire! – Museum of London

2. Clangers, Bagpuss and Co – Museum of Childhood

3. FOUND – Foundling Museum

4. Colour and Vision – Natural History Museum

5. Above and Beyond – National Maritime Museum

6. Start – Tate Modern

7. Birmingham Art Gallery

8. Eureka

9. Manchester Museums

10. The Geffrye

11. London Docklands (Museum of London)

12. Hackney Museum

13. Ship Ahoy! – Redbridge Museum

14. Horniman Museum and Gardens

15. Imagine Islington – Islington Museum

Thanks for your help everyone!
