We are looking for a Statistician Research Assistant / Research Associate (depending upon experience) to support the work of Dr Gary Abel. This post funded by NIHR and MacMillan Cancer Support is available immediately until 31st October 2017.

The successful applicant will perform statistical analyses to support two research projects. The first project is funded by MacMillan Cancer Support and will involve analysis of the Cancer Patient Experience Survey dataset. This survey is the largest of its kind in the world and is sent to around 100,000 cancer patients treated in English NHS hospitals. The main purposes of the project are to understand issues around representativeness of respondents and to assess the properties of the survey as a tool for measuring quality. In addition tools may be developed to help deal with any issues. The second project is funded by NIHR and is part of a wider project looking to develop policies and strategies aimed at retaining experienced GPs and those taking a career break in direct patient care. The particular project the successful applicant will work on is aiming to investigate predicting when practices might be at risk of a supply demand imbalance. This project is being carried out with collaborators at the University's Business School. The successful applicant will be able to present information on research progress and outcomes, communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically and prepare proposals and applications to external bodies.
