UK members may be interested in the following.

1. I looked at the NHS published figures on Pathology reference costs over the years.  Then I used the Bank of England CPI calculator to convert the 2009 figures to 2015 equivalent figures. The results show that the cost per test for NHS pathology in England has decreased by 18.7%-37.4% between 2009/2010 and 2014/2015.

2. The European IVD Market statistics 2014 show that IVD spend per capita in the UK (12.6) is well below the mean (18.6 euros).  The IVD spend per capita in the UK fell from 2012 to 2014

The data shows that the cost per test for pathology has decreased in the period covered (increased productivity), and show that the UK spend on IVD, per capita, is significantly less than the European mean and is falling. Of interest are the countries that spend more than the UK and the countries that spend less than the UK.
