New Book on Community Development – Politics, Power and Community Development (2016)

Politics, Power and Community Development (2016) edited by Rosie R. Meade, Mae Shaw and Sarah Banks [https://policypress.co.uk/politics-power-and-community-development] is the first title in a timely new series from the Policy Press called Rethinking Community Development [https://policypress.co.uk/rethinking-community-development ]. A highly original addition to the community development literature, this book is consciously international, inter-disciplinary and inter-generational in its scope. Politics, Power and Community Development presents unique and critical reflections on policy and practice drawn from a range of contexts that includes Taiwan, Australia, India, South Africa, Germany, the USA, Ireland, Malawi, Ecuadorian and Peruvian Amazonia and the UK. The book addresses key dilemmas and challenges being navigated by activists, professionals and academics in the field of community development. It explores the impacts and form of neoliberalism and managerialism in contemporary practice, while also identifying alternative ways of thinking about and doing community development. It is hope that this edited collection will serve as a useful and important intellectual and practical resource. The second book in the Rethinking Community Development series is Class, Inequality and Community Development [https://policypress.co.uk/class-inequality-and-community-development ], edited by Mae Shaw and Marjorie Mayo, and it will be published in September 2016.
