Dear all

In our science communication survey earlier this year, lots of you said you'd like to connect with people from other sectors. So we've been working on a way to meet this need, and are really pleased to announce a new BSA event: Culture Shock<http://www.britishscienceassociation.org/Event/culture-shock-chapter-1>. It's a day of talks, interviews and networking to explore the journey taken by experts who immerse themselves in a new sector. The sessions follow the four stages of culture shock - honeymoon, anxiety, adjustment and assimilation.

We'll partner with different organisations for each event, to get a mix of scicommers and other groups. For Chapter 1, we're thrilled to be working with Fun Palaces<http://funpalaces.co.uk/>, to bring together scientific and arts audiences, to look at how we can create a new culture.

The event is at Conway Hall on 17 November, 10am-5pm<http://www.britishscienceassociation.org/Event/culture-shock-chapter-1>, and the day will feature talks, interviews and performances including:

  * Psychotherapist, author and TV presenter: Philippa Perry
  *   TourettesHero Jess Thom
  *   Opera singer Sani Muliaumaseali'i
  * Brockwell Lido Fun Palace co-Makers, Alzheimer's Research UK Fellow Dr Elizabeth Glennon and writer Shelley Silas

See our website for full details and tickets<http://www.britishscienceassociation.org/Event/culture-shock-chapter-1>, which are £80-120, with some bursaries available. The full programme will be released over the coming months.

Chapter 1 is in London, as this is where our survey showed most people could attend, but we're hoping to hold events throughout the country in 2017, and are talking to potential partners. If you have an idea of an organisation we could work with near you, please do get in touch with me off-list.

Best wishes, and look forward to seeing you there,
Anna

The British Science Association believes that science should be a part of - rather than set apart from - society and culture, and is owned by the wider community. Our programmes encourage people of all ages and backgrounds to engage with science, become ambassadors for science, and ultimately to be empowered to challenge and influence British science - whether they work in science or not.
