medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture

There are several accounts of Henry's miraculous cure at Montecassino by St. Benedict. In the eleventh century there is one in Amatus of Montecassino's _Historia Normannorum_ and another, by Leo of Ostia (Leo Marsicanus), in the _Chronica monasterii Casinensis_. Henry's Vita BHL 3812 (ca. 1140-1170) has another.

Best again,
John Dillon

Amazing! Must get to Bamburg! Is there a written record for this miracle? Anything about Henry´s devotion to St. Benedict?

Yet another image of St. Benedict:

as portrayed in relief (at left, removing a gallstone from emperor Henry II; at right, Henry's physician sleeps) by Tilman Riemenschneider on a flank of the early sixteenth-century monumental tomb of Sts. Henry II and Kunigunde in the cathedral of Bamberg:
