Subject: Hanzi competition for kids and teachers … win up to $5000
To: [log in to unmask]

Hello!

First, many thanks to Katherine and the team for a great two days at the
IOE CI teacher conference last week. I met lots of you and had some great
conversations. Thank you for your encouragement!

Second, I’d like to announce that our competition
<http://www.hanzihero.com/win-5000.html> is now OPEN!

As you may know, we launched *Hanzi Hero* last year – it’s a comic strip
app for learning Chinese characters. We had lots of good feedback
<http://www.hanzihero.com/press--reviews.html> from academics, teachers and
kids but it’s taken a while to raise the money we needed to get word out
and create more content.

Now we have – and we’d like to get as many kids and teachers as possible
involved in our next chapter.

If you or your pupils love comic strips and/or *hanzi*, just tell us what
you think happens next in the story. It’s a great project for the summer
and you could win up to $5000 (find out how
<http://www.hanzihero.com/win-5000.html>). Teams can enter too so you could
join forces with your kids or with another school.

Do forward to parents, teachers outside the UK and anyone else who might be
interested - kids who like manga/manhua and kids in China learning English
who enjoy writing stories.

The app is free to download while the competition is running (iPad only
until version 2.0 – sorry!) so get it from the app store
<https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/hanzi-hero/id943358996?mt=8>. Or have a
look at the preview <http://www.hanzihero.com/lesson-1.html> of the first
chapter at our site.

*And tell us what you think …*

As an app developer, I love to hear what’s going on with technology in the
classroom, what you need and what the kids enjoy. If you like *Hanzi Hero*
do please keep in touch (email b <[log in to unmask]>
[log in to unmask]) and help us make it even better. And if you don’t
like it, please tell us why!!

Here are some things you told us at the conference that we hope to fix in
the next version:

· include a way of getting feedback on pupil performance so we can
set Hanzi Hero as homework (definitely)

· speed it up – sometimes the story moves too slowly (thinking
about that)

· allow users to input hanzi by writing with their fingers in the
test (definitely)

· how are you going to do really complicated *hanzi* (wait and see!)

· more hanzi – we need at least 100 to make it worth using in school

· what about Android and web versions? (yes, for sure!)

Thanks very much and look forward to hearing from you.
