USA Today have created a website which provides information on the numerous cases of litigation in which the business empire of Donald Trump has been involved. It lists over 4,000 cases in the last 30 years.

New Social Science open access archive launched.

SocArXiv , being developed in association with Center for Open Science and an international research body of advisors  will provide free open access to social science research papers . A temporary home allows researchers to search and browse the pre prints which have already been loaded.

This summarises previous UK government documents, parliamentary debates and the viewpoints of key stake holders.

Free access to PASCAL and FRANCIS journal index archives

These major journal indexes are produced by leading French institution Inist-CNRS. Their archives  have now been made open access on the internet enabling researchers to quickly search by keyword for references to journal articles and reports covering a wide range of social science topics.

Pascal is scientific in focus it covers 1984-2015 . Has 6 main themes. Energy, environmental issues, materials, nanotechnology, safety, cognition, digital communication

FRANCIS 1972-2015. Focuses upon the humanities and social sciences.

Both databases have high percentages of references to European language materials. Many references contain abstracts. Conference proceedings are also indexed.

Millennials will spend £53,000 on rent before age of 30”

According to a new report by the Resolution foundation. See also some interesting comment on declining home ownership and living standards for the young from the Guardian.

The Resolution Foundation has referred to stagnation generation and raised concerns that millennials will earn less than previous generations. See its new website the Intergenerational Commission which is examining fairness between generations.

Another good starting point for examining issues relating to this is the IFS website . This week it published a report on Living standards, poverty and inequality in the Uk which reviewed trends for the last 50 years.in November 2015 they also published a report on wealth in the UK

The Equality and Human rights Commission Report  is Britain fairer report? Also reviewed evidence of a decline in social mobility in modern UK

 

 

Media Pluralism Monitor 2015 launched

The Media Pluralism Monitor is conducted by the Centre for Media Pluralism and Media Freedom  it aims to measure legal, economic and socio-cultural risks to media pluralism in EU nations. It is therefore a useful measure of the extent of media freedom.  Topics covered include: media ownership, political  independence of the media and social inclusiveness. The full methodology is provided on the website. Monitors issued since 2014 can be downloaded from the website. the 2015 monitor cover 19 European nations. UK was excluded.

How much is the Ocean worth?

Mapping Ocean wealth is an interesting website from The Nature Conservancy (TNC) which seeks to quantify the economic value of oceans and marine resources worldwide. Its Atlas of ocean wealth maps the economic, social and cultural value of oceans and coastal areas.

 

Identities: Understanding Islam in a Cross-Cultural Context

Useful online project and exhibition space created in collaboration by the Museum of History and Holocaust Education (Kennesaw State University) and the Ben M'Sik Community Museum (Hassan II University, Casablanca, Morocco)which seeks to explore the identities and experiences of Muslims living in the U.S. South as well as Moroccan Muslims in the largely immigrant community of Ben M’sik, Casablanca. The site offers free access to community histories, personal oral histories and a special section exploring images of Muslims in the post 9/11 environment. The latter includes an analysis of articles published in the US media on the 10th anniversary
