These major journal indexes are produced by leading French institution Inist-CNRS. Their archives have now been made open access on the internet enabling researchers to quickly search
by keyword for references to journal articles and reports covering a wide range of social science topics.
Pascal is scientific in focus it covers 1984-2015 . Has 6 main themes. Energy, environmental issues, materials, nanotechnology, safety, cognition, digital communication
FRANCIS 1972-2015. Focuses upon the humanities and social sciences.
Both databases have high percentages of references to European language materials. Many references contain abstracts. Conference proceedings are also indexed.

nations. It is therefore a useful measure of the extent of media freedom. Topics covered include: media ownership, political independence of the media and social inclusiveness. The full methodology is provided on the website. Monitors issued since 2014 can
be downloaded from the website. the 2015 monitor cover 19 European nations. UK was excluded.
