Dear All To support the publication of the Joint Industry Working Group’s Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012: Interpretation for Managing and Working with Asbestos in Soil and Construction and Demolition (C&D) materials: Industry Guidance (shortened name *CAR-SOILTM*)”, CL:AIRE is delighted to announce the launch of a package of training courses across the UK. *CAR-SOILTM* is *the* authoritative document interpreting the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 (CAR 2012 or the Regulations) as applied to working with ground materials contaminated by asbestos, having been prepared with the support of the Health and Safety Executive. It presents the definitive explanation of how the legal requirements of CAR 2012 have been interpreted to apply to work with asbestos contaminated soil and C&D materials. The guidance in *CAR-SOILTM* is underpinned by the fundamental requirements expressed in the Regulations, in relation to the protection of employees from risks related to exposure to asbestos, but is set within a carefully considered framework designed specifically for soil and C&D materials. The three CL:AIRE training courses being launched today are: · *CAR-SOILTM* For asbestos awareness and non-licensable work with asbestos training course tutors: duration, ½ day For ground investigation practitioners, surveyors, developers, housebuilders, contractors, site owners: 1 day · *Asbestos Awareness* For employees/self-employed persons that may be required to undertake work on or in ground and/or C&D materials that may potentially be contaminated with asbestos, including ground investigation practitioners, surveyors, construction/remediation contractors and materials recycling contractors. Duration, ½ day, inclusive of a multiple choice examination under exam conditions. · *Non Licensable Work** For employees/self-employed persons that undertake Non-Licensable Work on or in ground and/or C&D materials as defined in *CAR-SOILTM* that is or may potentially be contaminated with asbestos, including ground investigation practitioners construction/remediation contractors and materials recycling contractors. Duration, 1 day, inclusive of a multiple choice examination under exam conditions *Participants signing up for the Non-Licensable Work course will be required to demonstrate that they have attended an Asbestos Awareness course within the preceding 6 months and achieved a satisfactory pass mark on examination. These courses have been designed specifically to support all those managing and working with soil and C&D materials affected by asbestos, in order to facilitate compliance with the Information Instruction and Training requirements proscribed by Regulation 10 of CAR 2012. HSE advice is: “*Every employer must make sure that anyone who is liable to disturb asbestos during their normal work, or who supervises those employees, gets the correct level of information, instruction and training so that they can work safely and competently without risk to themselves or others.*” http://www.hse.gov.uk/asbestos/training.htm Training venues will be across the country including: London, Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow, Cardiff, Belfast, York and Bristol. Course numbers will be restricted to ensure a good trainer to delegate ratio in line with HSE-approved asbestos training sector guidelines. All training courses will also be available to be provided on a bespoke basis in-house at company venues.
