A consultant archivist is sought to assist with indexing and cataloguing a small historical archive. Contact wishes to place the archive on their website and to set up a system that will allow researchers to search the archive with ease.
Contact is a small charity that has an archive of personal accounts of World War 2 escapers and their helpers. Currently the archive consists of a collection of (unpublished) paper manuscripts and published books. The archive also contains: cassette and video tapes, maps, newspaper articles and photos. Most documents are in English but there are also some in Italian. The current index was last updated in 2005.
Most of the unpublished accounts have now been scanned into pdf files, but new additions are still made regularly. Volunteers are available to work with the consultant archivist if required.
You can read more about the Contact and see some representative historical accounts by visiting www.msmtrust.org.uk.
A budget has been set aside for this work and Contact envisages an initial exploratory phase of 5 days @£250 per day, with the duration of further assistance to be mutually agreed.
