Dear Zooarch hive mind,
I have what appears to be a rather large fulmar ulna with a GL of 133.04mm from a Scottish Island site. It resembles no other species that I have access to (I have tried various shearwaters, petrels, skuas etc. to be safe).
I was wondering if anyone had any metrics for the ulna of Southern Hemisphere fulmar (Fulmarus glacialoides), particularly GL? I am struggling to find any.
Also, has anyone encountered these straying out of their range and into the Northern Hemisphere as vagrants? As far as I can make out such vagrancy would be very rare.
Or, does anyone have suggestions of other species I should consider?
Any help much appreciated. I had forgotten about this bone until extracting some samples the other day!
All the best,
Julia
