Ulrike Ulrich, who lives in Zurich, published her first novel, fern bleiben, in 2010. This was followed by a second novel, Hinter den Augen (2013), and a collection of short prose, Draussen
um diese Zeit, in 2015. She is an active member of various writer networks, among them the Swiss PEN's Writers-in-Exile. Ulrike has received a number of prestigious awards for her work, one of them being the 6-month writing fellowship financed by
Landis & Gyr, which has brought her to London this year.
Marielle Sutherland is an experienced translator of German prose and poetry. Among her most notable translations are works by the German poet Rilke, published in Rainer Maria Rilke. Selected Poems, ed. by Robert Vilain (OUP, 2011).
Encounters: Writers and Translators in Conversation brings together writers and their translators in front of an audience, providing a unique opportunity to experience author and translator reading from
the text and in conversation, and allowing a fascinating insight into the working relationship between the two as well as the practical and theoretical aspects of translation.
Organised in conjunction with the University of Nottingham and sponsored by the Keith Spalding Bequest (IMLR, University of London)
