I have a structural MR image which is segmented into GM and WM. I would like to measure the volume of the GM. Does spm come with a function to do that?

Apparantely someone has written a script called get_totals where he multiplies the sum of image intensities by the absolute value of the determinant of the matrix and I don't understand why. Can anyone explain that to me?
