Tour of Wellcome Collection Library

Join CILIP Thames Valley on a tour of the Wellcome Collection Library! The Wellcome Collection Library was founded in 1949 on the collection formed by Sir Henry Wellcome, a 19th century pharmaceutical entrepreneur and collector. It is now one of the world’s leading libraries of medical history.

The collection contains over 9000 manuscripts and 800 archives on the history of medicine in the United Kingdom and Europe. The History of Medicine Collection contains books and journals which represent a broad history of medical thought from around the world since the earliest times. The Medical Collection contains rare books and ephemera from the 15th century to the present day. The art collection contains over 250,000 prints, drawings, paintings and photographs from the 14th century to the present. The library also contains a large Asian Collection and a significant Moving Image and Sound Collection as well as a large Biomedical Images Collection.

The tour will include an overview of the history of the library and an opportunity to view items from the collection.
