There is a brand new strand taking place at this year’s CILIP Conference (12-13 July, Brighton) which will be of benefit to all library and information professionals, no matter what stage of your career.

Taking place within the Brighton Pavilion itself, the “Your Career” strand has been put together by CILIP (Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals) and includes presentations and workshops introducing delegates to tools and providing them with practical advice, helping them with professional development and their approach to advocacy within the workplace and profession.

These presentations and workshops cover a variety of topics including developing leadership skills, demonstrating value and a chance to talk to those experienced in professional registration. Alison Brettle will introduce new research commissioned by CILIP which outlines the evidence base which demonstrates value that trained information and library professionals deliver to their organisation. Dawn Finch and Kate Arnold will then share their Leadership journeys with a particular focus on how they have developed their advocacy skills. In July 2015, CILIP launched their first Leadership Programme, bringing together a variety of professionals from right across the profession and UK. Now, a year later, they have completed the programme and in this session you will have an opportunity to hear more about the programme, the projects that they delivered and their learning journeys. There’s also a first look at CILIP’s new online version of the Professional Knowledge and Skills Base as well as the opportunity to talk to others undertaking Certification, Chartership or Fellowship.

The CILIP Conference is the perfect opportunity to keep your professional skills base up-to-date and is a cost effective way of contributing around 14 hours of CPD activities.

The CILIP Conference brings delegates from across the world and from a broad range of sectors and, as well as a fantastic networking opportunity, you will be inspired by the conference sessions you hear and take part in. Session speakers will be sharing their experiences on subjects as diverse as copyright, data stewardship, information literacy, public sector partnerships, information governance, privacy, social media, user engagement plus many many more. Organisations represented include Carnegie UK Trust, Morgan Stanley, Bodleian Libraries, Tinder Foundation, Royal Shakespeare Company and Ministry of Defence. This broad range of subject matter and the diversity of the delegates and speakers makes the CILIP Conference a unique environment for collaboration and for returning to your organisation with fresh ideas and a renewed sense of purpose.

“It caused me to think about things differently, and newly opened my mind to some things I hadn’t fully appreciated.” 2015 delegate
