We have a requirement for 5 x Office based GIS staff who will need to service the data exported by a team of 5 surveyors capturing cycle features in London. We also need 1 x Office based GIS manager to co-ordinate the above.
Postings will be at our offices in Harwell (Oxon) but we are also interested in applicants from London and the Sheffield area.
The project will last 6.5 months and starts in mid to late June. Remuneration for the GIS Staff will be £12,500 for the duration of the project. Remuneration for the GIS Manager will £15,000 for the duration of the project.
GIS STAFF TASKS:
Each GIS staff member will process data for their team of surveyors, of which there are 5:
TASKS for each GIS Staff member:
CHECKING THE DATA:
Checking the Data is based on these principles:
1. Querying the database to see if data is missing, and check against the photo, video and notes supplied by the surveyors to fill those gaps in the database AND to check if those features have the correct attributes. For example, a cycle sign might have the wrong attributes and this would be discovered when checking the video and the pictures supplied by the surveying teams. The idea is that every single feature must be checked to have all and above the correct attributes.
2. Carry out a graphical check to see if the asset is indeed recorded on the map as a point OR line, if it is positioned correctly on the map based on the background info like UK Map and Google, or aerial imagery. If errors are found in the position of the features, video and pictures must be checked and the correction applied to UK Map. We need to make sure that a point does not carry the attributes of a line and vice versa (mistakes happened in the field).
3. Then correct them if necessary and also use video (with GPX files) and photos (geo-referenced) supplied by the survey teams.
So this is all about checking and correcting the attributes and the graphical feature, because at the end TfL want’s GIS files (shapefiles) which will show the position of the features captured in the field (with a 95% accuracy) and the attributes for those features (with a 95% accuracy in this info).
QGIS PROCESS:
When the GIS staff have accessed the data import, checked and corrected it, they need to split the info into 2 layers, line and point, check and correct the data, merge data at the end of day which has been collected from all members of their survey team and make sure it does not overlap (for example 2 surveyors may pass through the same intersection and both of them collect data for the same feature) or is duplicated.
So in summary, the GIS staff - import split into 2, check and correct and merge. The GIS Manager has a supplementary task in that they need to take all of the GIS Staff output and merges all of it
