Hi Poppy

The HLF funded project Eighth in the East: http://www.8theast.org/ has undertaken research into black GIs, that has resulted in a play is currently touring East of England and there is a festival in a couple of weeks that will also present some of the research. It may be of some use for you as they have been able to publicise the AA GIs in East of England.

Best wishes

Hello,

I wonder if anyone can help me with a tricky query? My grandfather was an African American GI based in Northamptonshire (Wellingborough) in the 1940s – I have incredible objects recently discovered under a church where he and the other African Americans were based at night (long moving story). I am beginning to start developing a project about the AA GI’s based in the UK during and after WW2. Does anyone have anything in their collections related to the AA GI’s – it is SO hard to find objects and/or info (loads about the white GI’s!).

Many thanks –

Poppy
