Sometimes members of staff, mostly visitor assistants, at Leeds City Museum, and the Leeds Museum Discovery Centre, have had to field queries and respond to visitors whose religious beliefs include non-acceptance of the science that indicates how old the earth is, and how speciation occurred. These two venues have large and significant natural history and fossil specimens, Designated collections, in fact. As a result of such encounters, to give staff a policy, or position statement to refer people to, a Position Statement On Evolution was drafted by a small group, in which I was included, and the document was accepted as official policy.
