Dear Supporter,

The NSPCC's fourth annual state of the nation report - now available to download here<http://email.nspcc.org.uk/c/12NaGSdQQWx2zbhRPJ2YZk5r> - shows the highest number of recorded sexual offences against children in the UK in a decade.

The report, launched today at our How safe are our children? conference, is the most robust and up-to-date overview of child protection in the UK.

Reports of online abuse have also increased, including an increase in the number of URLs containing child abuse images being identified and removed from the internet. This reflects a growing awareness amongst the public and professionals of the changing nature of child abuse in the digital age.

As well as the increase in recorded sexual offences, the report also finds that England and Wales have seen an increase in the number of recorded cruelty and neglect offences in the last year. It is likely that an increased willingness of victims to come forward has contributed to these increases.

As more children speak out about abuse, they are often left without the support they need to get back on track. We must ensure that every abused child gets the support they need to rebuild their lives.
