Dear RADIX community,
I am revising a paper on the root causes of risk in peri-urban Kolkata, and could use a good reference or two that critiques the current obsession with quantifying/indexing risk and vulnerability. I believe I share with many of you the feeling that these indices (imperfectly) capture only proximate conditions of vulnerability, and can work to obscure or obstruct our understandings of the the structural and socio-historical roots of risk. I am guessing that this argument has been thoroughly and eloquently made, and any guidance towards those pieces would be much appreciated.
Best Regards,
