Live Art Development Agency, London
The Ethics of Corporate Sponsorship
engage South East Area Reps invite members and regional colleagues to an Area Group Meeting at the Study Room, Live Art Development Agency (LADA), London on Tuesday 14 June, 12-4pm. The meeting offers an opportunity to explore and discuss the ethics of corporate sponsorship and fundraising.
With the recent news that BP will end its sponsorship of Tate in 2017 and of the Edinburgh International Festival after 34 years, this timely meeting will include presentations and workshops from a number of key advocates in the cultural sector calling for more ethical considerations of offers of financial support. LADA will begin the session by introducing their work on ethical funding issues and their recent project PLAYING UP: Live Art for Kids & Adults. Platform, the organisation that combines art, activism, education and research to create unique projects driven by the need for social and ecological justice, will lead a discursive workshop. And educator, consultant and evaluator Bridget McKenzie will draw on her extensive experience of working with cultural organisations and her thinking on culture, ecology and the future to make provocative challenges to members’ practice. There will also be an opportunity to pick up the Museum Association’s new Code of Ethics, which encourages practitioners to consider shifts in thinking and approaches to partnering with commercial organisations.
