Dear all,

You may already be aware of the research below ... thought they would make valuable contribution to anyone wanting to back their claim that teaching ESOL reduces poverty

This one argues that language proficiency has a direct correlation with successful integration: Cheung, S.Y. and Phillimore, J. (2014) ‘Refugees, Social Capital and Labour Market Integration in the UK’, Sociology, DOI: 10.1177/0038038513491467
This one says that poverty among asylum seekers and refugees is worsened by poor language proficiency: http://www.birmingham.ac.uk/Documents/college-social-sciences/social-policy/iris/2014/working-paper-series/IRiS-WP-1-2014.pdf
