PhD students/Post-Docs/Early career researchers: Join us for the first DAVA
Workshop on the 3rd – 6th October 2016 in Reykjavik, Iceland!

 Two workshops will be organized by the DAVA-project (Domestic Animals in
the Viking Age) in 2016 and 2017. The DAVA project is funded by the Joint
Committee for Nordic Research Councils in the Humanities and Social
Sciences (NOS-HS).


The first DAVA workshop will take place at the Agricultural University of
Iceland in Reykjavik in 2016. The primary objective of the DAVA workshops
is to establish a strong interdisciplinary research network where
researchers from archaeology, zooarchaeology, ancient DNA and modern
genetics work to integrate their approach to researching domestic animals
in the Viking Age, and to utilize this network to apply for collaborative,
large European or Nordic research grants with the participants from the
workshops.



*Presentations at the DAVA workshop 2016 will be on focused on the
following topics:*

·  Prehistory and history of Vikings related to animal spread in northern
Eurasian regions

·  The role of domestic animals during the Viking Age

·  The trade of domestic animals during the Viking Age

·  Ancient DNA methodologies, particularly Next Generation Sequencing
approaches, whole genome genotyping methods, bioinformatics

·  Ancient DNA analysis and animal domestication and migration

·  Genetics and history of the modern farm animal breeds

*Students/early career researchers*

The DAVA project will cover travel, accommodation (3 nights) and workshop
services for 2-3 PhD students/early career researchers.

·         Submit combined in one word/pdf file along with the registration *by
May 15th 2016*

o   A short statement of purpose (max 250 words)

o   A title and abstract (max 250 words) for a presentation

o   A one page CV and publication list (you can include articles in
preparation)



*Students' applications will be evaluated by the organizing committee.
Student/early career participants will be selected based on the scientific
merits of the abstract submitted, its relevance to the DAVA workshop theme
and the student's CV and statement of purpose. *Descisons will be announced
by June 1st 2016.



*Abstracts*

Please submit a short abstract (no more than 250 words) with a title, names
and affiliations by the 15th of May 2016 simultaneously with the
registration.

The program of the DAVA-workshop will be built based on submitted
abstracts. All abstracts will be presented as oral presentations. Accepted
abstracts will be included in the workshop materials.
