The Department of Geography and Environmental Systems at the University of Maryland
Baltimore County (UMBC) invites applications for a one-year appointment as a Visiting
Assistant Professor in the area of Geographic Information Systems. The successful
candidate will hold a PhD in Geography or related discipline at the time of appointment and
demonstrate experience working with advanced geospatial applications or GIS instruction.
We anticipate that the successful candidate will teach 3 courses for each of two terms

B.S./MS, M.S., Professional M.S. in GIS) and 16 Ph.D. students. The department has 14
regular faculty and 9 adjunct/affiliate faculty, and has established a strong record of federal

topics from human geography to environmental science and management including:
ecology and biogeography, global change science, hydrology and geomorphology,
meteorology and severe storms, GIS and remote sensing, urban geography, public health,
environmental history, political ecology, resource conservation, and environmental policy.
Urban environmental research is particularly well represented, given faculty affiliation

program, and a description of two potential classes in area of specialty; CV and the names
