The Department of Geography wishes to appoint a lecturer in Geographical Information Systems to complement and strengthen the Department’s existing research and teaching interests.  The departmental Geoinformatics research cluster is particularly active in the domains of satellite Earth Observation, GIS and the coastal zone, and cartography, and has close ties with other research groups within UCC including MaREI, the Environmental Research Institute and the Department of Archaeology. Taught Masters courses in GIS and Remote Sensing, and Coastal and Marine Management, and a Higher Diploma in GIS are key programmes within the Department in which the Geoinformatics staff participate.

The successful candidate for this lectureship will contribute to GIS teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, in both face-to-face and online formats.  In addition the appointee will be expected to contribute to ongoing development of the BA/BSc and MSc programmes within the Geography Department. Expertise in developing online content would be welcome.

We are seeking an active researcher, with a strong track record of peer-reviewed publications and with knowledge of GIScience, numerical modelling or programming. Applicants must hold a doctoral qualification in GIS or another closely related field and demonstrate a proven commitment to excellence in teaching and research in Geography.
