Dear colleagues,

We invite native Chinese speakers to apply for a post of post-doctoral research ethnographer to work full-time for 2 years on an exciting and innovatory project on the relationship between migration and mental health in one Chinese mega-city: Shanghai. At the heart of the project is an attempt to mix what we know about mental health in contemporary Shanghai with a new kind of close-up, street-level ethnography on what the daily experience of being a migrant in Shanghai is actually like, especially with regard to coping with the stresses of displacement, housing, income, services, the urban environment. We will then connect these two forms of knowledge to produce a new sociological deep surveying instrument for mapping migrant mental health in Shanghai, and other cities.

The post is based at the School of Public Health, Fudan University, in Shanghai. The project involves specific collaboration between King's College, Cardiff University, Cambridge University, Fudan University, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The 3-year project is financed by the ESRC/NSFC/Newton Fund. Please email Professor Nick Manning ([log in to unmask]) or Professor Fu Hua ([log in to unmask]) for details and enquiries.
Please see the webpage for a Chinese version of detailed job description and application procedures: http://www.hr.fudan.edu.cn/93/0f/c4947a103183/page.htm

Best wishes,

Jessie
