hi Sarah -
i reinstalled X11 and reinstalled starlink and all is now working. i
needed to do both for some reason (gaia's inability to recreate
.skycat until the re-install is a mystery).
i was just about to delete fink, which would have made life very hard.
thankfully i didn't need to go that far.
thanks for your efforts on this. very much appreciated.
