Hello Alexia
I can’t answer ques.1 but can suggest a company called Kadec. We (National Museums Scotland) use them & they’ve been very good. Their asbestos course was the best course I’ve ever been on!

Good luck.

Subject: Asbestos Specialists
This is an email sent via the SHCG List. If you reply to this message, your message will be sent to all the people on the list, not just the author of this message. -------------------------------
Good Morning All,
We have found what looks suspiciously like asbestos millboard inside an early camera – it is around the spool holder.
My questions are:
1.
Does anybody have any knowledge of asbestos being used in cameras? I have had a good old Google and not come up with anything conclusive.
2.
Does anyone have any recommendations for asbestos specialists who are respectful of/knowledgeable about museum collections, and could advise us more helpfully than ‘just have it destroyed’ or ‘bag it and never touch it again’
which is the ‘advice’ we have received from some parties!
Many thanks
Alexia
