*Subject:* International Science Writing Competition now open (UWE Bristol)

The UWE Bristol SCU Science Writing Competition 2016 is now open. Aimed
at non-professional science writers, entrants are invited to write a
700-word article about *“the next big thing in science.” The closing
date is 24 June 2016. For more information go to
www.uwe.ac.uk/sciencewriting <http://www.uwe.ac.uk/sciencewriting>*

There is a separate category for writers aged under 18, and there are no
restrictions on where writers are resident*. *Published writers
(professional journalists and anyone else who writes for money) are
excluded from entering the competition. All others, including scientists
and bloggers, are welcome to apply.**

*Also of interest to all: the competition judges, including editors and
writers from IFL Science, BBC, The Royal Institution and UWE Bristol,
have written up some tips and strategies for successful science writing.

Seem like sound advice to you?*

The competition is run by UWE Bristol’s Science Communication Unit (SCU)
<http://www1.uwe.ac.uk/research/sciencecommunicationunit.aspx> in
partnership with BBC Focus magazine <http://www.sciencefocus.com/> and
the Royal Institution <http://www.rigb.org/>.
