Dementia, Equity and Rights, Thursday 26th May 2016, Holiday Inn Bloomsbury London

A free event to launch a unique publication put together by members of the Voluntary and Community Sector Strategic Partnership.*

Keynote speakers: Toby Williamson (Mental Health Foundation). Further speakers to be announced.

This event will launch a publication that highlights the main issues arising for people with dementia and carers from the following population groups: the oldest old, young onset, people with disabilities, black and minority ethnic people (BME), women, lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people (LGB&T), and different socio-economic populations.

It will also provide information, recommendations and resources for commissioners, service providers, educators, service users and their carers to ensure that the best possible care and support to people living with dementia and their carers is expected and delivered.

The event will be an opportunity for delegates to learn more about the issues raised in the publication, to discuss key implications and to share positive practice from a range of perspectives.

A panel will be convened for the afternoon to discuss issues raised by people who attend the event and answer specific questions that might come out of the workshops. The panel members will include Alison Murray CQC, Karen Morse Skills for Care, and a range of representatives from Voluntary and Community Sector Organisations.

The event will host five workshops co-produced with people with dementia

-          - Race Equality Foundation will lead a workshop on dementia and black and minority ethnic people

-          - Mental Health Providers Forum will lead a workshop on dementia and mental health

-          - Macintyre will lead a workshop on dementia and people with disabilities

-          - National LGB&T Partnership will lead a workshop on dementia and Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender people

-          - Innovations in Dementia will lead a workshop on dementia and the experience of women

*The Strategic Partner Programme brings together expertise from the voluntary and community sector. It has 22 programme members, six of which are consortiums.  Partners work together on key aspects of health, social care, and public health policy with system organisations - Department of Health (DH), Public Health England (PHE) and NHS England (NHSE) - on behalf of patients, service users and the wider public.  The strategic partners work directly with policy makers and co-produce specific projects. This event and publication is an example of that co-production.
