We are pleased to welcome Dr Vincenzo Spigonardo  Clinical & Research coordinator of the Cultural Consultation Service at the Hospital "Ai Colli"- Bologna


The title of his presentation and his summary of it is:

Cultural Psychiatry in the time of Lampedusa emergency

I will focus on migration flux to Italy (UNHCR), the way in which local health policies try to respond to such massive dislocation of people and what the Department of Mental Health of Bologna is planning to do. This presentation will try to give an overview on epidemiological data concerning migration and the need for an integrated research approach between social, political and clinical actors


Dr Spigonardo is a psychiatrist and psychotherapist with an interest in phenomenology and Psychoanalytic psychotherapy.  He works in adult psychiatry and addictions.
Since last year he has been the coordinator of an Ethnopsychiatric and Cultural Consultation Service dedicated to asylum seekers and refugees as well as to unaccompanied children which are part of the Lampedusa Emergency Program which involves the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

His main research interests concern: models of service for multicultural societies, traditional healing and the use of cultural lever, clinical psychopathology and ethnopsychiatry, religion and mental health.
