Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to update you on the progress of the NICE guideline on ‘intrapartum care for high risk women’ (IPCHR) and to invite your comments on proposals to review the current guidance on electronic fetal monitoring in NICE clinical guideline 190 ‘Intrapartum care for healthy women and babies’ (CG190).  This message is being sent to all organisations registered as stakeholders for either guideline.

Scope for IPCHR

NICE hoped to make the final scope for IPCHR available at the end of last year.  However, finalisation of the scope has been delayed due to the size and complexity of the work involved in developing this particular guideline.   As you may remember, the project involves two committees rather than the usual one: one focussing on the care of women with medical conditions and their babies, the other focussing on the care of women with obstetric complications and their babies.

NICE currently anticipates that the final scope and the table of responses to all comments received during the consultation on the draft scope will be available in May.  Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this causes.

Plan to review electronic fetal monitoring guidance

In response to feedback from stakeholders, NICE has exceptionally agreed to review the guidance it provided on fetal monitoring in CG190.

NICE will do this as a discrete project within the obstetric stream of the IPCHR guideline, and on an expedited timeline.  For this part of its work, the obstetric committee will be augmented with co-opted members and advised by expert witnesses as necessary.  Recruitment of the co-opted members will begin shortly.  All registered stakeholders will be notified of the opportunity to apply.

Please help NICE ensure that the focus of this work is right by commenting on the proposals attached.  These proposals detail which review questions will be rerun as part of this review and consequently which recommendations in CG190 are subject to change through this work and which are not.

To comment, simply:

1. open the attachment, adding your details where indicated OR access the proposals on our website here: https://www.nice.org.uk/guidance/indevelopment/GID-CGWAVE0613/consultation/html-content

2. add any comments you have on the proposals into the comment boxes

3. save the document and send it to [log in to unmask] by 5pm on 26th April 2016.

Many thanks.

Yours faithfully,

Clifford Middleton
