Dear colleagues,
You are warmly invited to join us for the following event:

Symposium on Practice Research Methodologies
Edinburgh Napier University, Merchiston Campus, Room B32
Monday 13th June 2016, 10am to 4pm

With a growing number of academics framing their professional practice in media as research, many are interested in the methodologies colleagues across the country are using for practice research.
If you are interested in or engaged in practice research in the creative industries - film, television, journalism, photography or other media -, join us at Edinburgh Napier University on June 13th 2016 to share your experiences with colleagues and to hear our two key note speakers share their expertise:
Cahal McLaughlin, Professor of Film Studies, Queen's University Belfast and Editorial Board Member of the Journal of Media Practice will talk about the general context of practice research methodologies related to media and discuss practice research methodologies using his own research as case study, with reference also to QUB’s last REF submission.
Professor Nick Higgins, Chair of Media Practice, University of West Scotland and Director of the Research Hub for Creativity and Culture, will discuss the general context of practice research methodologies related to media and showcase practice research methodologies using examples from his own research as a case study.
The event will take place between 10am and 4pm on 13th June 2016. There will be an opportunity for networking over (free) sandwiches and tea/coffee at lunchtime. The final hour of the event is reserved for a podium discussion about practice research methodologies and the REF.
Colleagues and PhD students from across Scotland and the UK are very welcome to join us. Any colleagues interested in sharing methodologies they are using for their own media practice research during this event, we'd love to hear from you. Please do get in touch and submit a short abstract to Rachel Younger: [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>.
We will fund five train tickets for PhD students based in Scotland to join us. If interested, please also do get in touch with Rachel Younger. The deadline for letting us know if you want to talk about your own practice research methodologies, or for applying for PhD student travel funding is 20th May 2016.
This event is co-funded by the MeCCSA Practice Network.

With best wishes
Rachel
